CLAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 2011
Southeast Polk Community School District (Iowa)
2nd Grade - Mrs. Sandy Piatt

Our 2nd grade class has been reading poetry all year to increase our reading fluency. The students are noticing patterns and rhyming words in poems. Each week they find the pattern, highlight the rhyming words and talk about how poetry is written. When the opportunity to write a poem was presented to us, the students jumped at the chance to show their skills! The assignment they were given was to write a poem that showed a pattern of rhyming words or to write a poem that told a story. These are the poems that were sent to your website. Thanks for publishing them.

I Bought My Dog a Skateboard
by Katie

I bought my dog a skate board.
I think he likes it a lot.
But I think I won't by more.
He's zooming up the side walk.
Why didn't he just listen.
Still it's not my fault.
The neighbors are going wild.
My brother has a smile.
He's going in the street.
now he's under my feet.
My dad is getting worried.
My sister is laughing.
My mom might get furey.
My cat is having a party.
My friend is surprised.
My dog is widly barking.
Now it's impossible to
Break a world record!
Oh no I got to go!
The End

it was the best cake ever.
It tasted like red velvet.
It tasted like there were tomatoes at the bottom.
The strawberry at the top mixed with the cake.

I love football
it is my favorite sport
when your quarterback you get to throw the ball.
when your runningback you get to run the ball.
when your wide receiver you get to catch the ball.

when your safety you tackle the people.
