For the ninth time in league history, a RB was taken
#1 overall as Lake Show got the 21st Annual Draft
underway with the selection of Melvin Gordon. The
draft was marked by the first time three RBs were
drafted among the Top 5 since 2006, when five were
taken in the top six picks. With Gordon, wr Amari
Cooper, rb Todd Gurley, and wr Kevin White going
in the first four selections, there were no real
surprises until Lake Show took Joseph Randle at
#5. Randle is the first non-rookie drafted in the
1st Rd since the O's took rb Correll Buckhlater
#4 in 2003. Despite the resurgence of RBs this year,
the 1st Rd still was WR-heavy with five taken among
the top 10 (tying the most WRs drafted in the first
round with the 2010 draft). Overall 42 draft picks
were made and three trades were completed. The draft
also included a new Coach Draft, where all 10 owners
selected an NFL Coach who they will start throughout
the season.
