For the seventh time in the last twelve
drafts a running back was taken with the
first overall selection. With the franchises
first Hall of Fame Achievement selection
since 2000, the Tomcats drafted rb Le'Veon
Bell. This draft marked the first to include
two running backs among the top three
picks since the rb-heavy draft of 2008.
This years draft had the longest wait
in league history for the first quarterback
to get selected - with E.J. Manuel at
#9 by the defending Prestige Champion
Tormenta (who acquired the pick through
an in-draft trade with Lightning). Last
year was a busy draft for trades, but
only two were made this year (the lowest
since 2009). Besides the top two running
backs (Bell and Giovani Bernard, who Lightning
moved up to acquire) the wide receivers
once again dominated the top half - with
Tavon Austin, DeAndre Hopkins, Cordarrelle
Patterson, and Aaron Dobson rounding out
the top six picks. The 69ers concluded
the first round with the selection of
Tyler Eifert, the 9th tight end taken
in the history of the first round (four
of which have been by the 69ers).
