Taking place in their host city, A II P became the
first ever defending Prestige Champion to open a
draft with the Hall of Fame Achievement Award pick
as first overall. As expected A II P opened the
draft selecting wr Julio Jones with the first pick.
Jones is the fourth wide receiver selected #1 overall
- three of which have come within the last five
years. A II P followed the pick the wr AJ Green,
making this the first year to ever open with two
WRs. Tormenta took three RBs in the first round
starting with Mark Ingram at #3. The first QB was
not selected until #6 (the longest drought since
the 2005 draft) with the O's taking Blaine Gabbert.
However nine QBs were taken overall with at least
one selected in all six rounds. There were a total
of four draft day deals three of which involved
picks in the 2012 draft. H proved to be the most
active team in draft day deals as they twice traded
into picks at #20 (swapping a 2nd Rd in 2012) and
then at #28 (giving Plaxico Burress who they acquired
via free agency before the deadline late last year).
The 69ers had only only pick but did trade away
a key free agent acquisition from 2010, wr Brandon
Lloyd who they sent to Lightning for a 1st Rd pick
in 2012. United and the O's each creatively handled
their team salary issues finishing the draft just
below (or in the case of United at) the limit. Overall
it was a great day and it seemed to be successful
for all ten teams.
