A record tying six trades were made during an exciting
18th Annual Draft Day, which began with the selection
of qb Andrew Luck by the 69ers. Luck is the first
QB taken #1 overall since Aaron Brooks in 2001 (also
selected by the 69ers). United then followed with
a QB selection of Robert Griffin III, making it
only the second time in league history that QB's
went #1 and #2 in the draft (the previous was the
Inaugural Draft of 1995). Only three WR's went in
the 1st Rd, a rarity considering the previous three
drafts were dominated by WR's taken in the 1st Rd.
The first WR taken was Justin Blackmon by Tormenta
who acquired the pick in the first of a series of
major trades that highlighted the evening. Tormenta
sent Eli Manning to the 69ers for the pick. Later
Darrius Heyward-Bey was traded for the #10 pick
and then in a huge surprise, H sent longtime TE
Jason Witten to Lake Show for a 2nd Rd pick and
4th in 2013.
