Parade

I know the monsters will come tonight
marching in a parade.
Bones will clatter, flesh shall shudder
tongues will lick.
The village lowers the gates
bars the windows
locks the doors.
Husbands equip their flimsy swords
children are ushered in as dusk nears.
I know the monsters come
I told them with a screech
soon blood will spill out in the streets.
Why do I know the monsters come?
Can someone tell me why?
Because I lead the monster parade
we want no human flesh this time.
Tonight we come for misery
because misery tastes best.
