DOROTHY SHELLY
The Reverend Dorothy E. Shelly serves as chaplain of Phoebe
Richland Health Care Center in Richlandtown, Upper Bucks
County. She is charged with addressing the spiritual needs
of the facilitys residents, their families, and staff
members through pastoral care and counseling. Much of her
role focuses on issues of transition, change, and loss.
Reverend Shelly also mentors chaplain interns and serves
as a liaison for community outreach to local churches and
the wider community setting. She has been with Phoebe Ministries
since August 1996.
Shelly
is an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ with
standing in the North Penn Association of the Pennsylvania
Southeast Conference where she serves on the Ministry Committee.
Ministry
is her second career. She earned an Associates degree
in Nursing from Montgomery County Community College, a Bachelors
degree in Philosophy and Religion from Ursinus College,
and a Master of Divinity degree from Lancaster Theological
Seminary. She is this years co-recipient of the Seminarys
Alumni Meck Award for distinguished service in the practice
of pastoral care. Her background in nursing focused on gerontology,
oncology
and mental health.
Reverend
Shelly is board certified with the Association of Professional
Chaplains and is past president of the Pennsylvania Society
of Chaplains. She is also a member of The International
Womens Writing Guild. She is an avid reader, a lover
of poetry and is the author of Anybody
See My Shoes? Poetic Reflections From A Chaplain. Her
poetry has appeared in The Journal of Pastoral Care,
Chaplaincy Today, and Faith @ Work
along with other periodicals. In her spare time, she is
also a passionate perennial gardener as well as an advocate
for frequent relaxing get-a-ways to Vermont. She resides
in Telford, Franconia Township with her husband Bruce.
