Deborah
Fries has published her poems
in North American Review, Cream
City Review, Cimarron Review,
Terrain.org, ForPoetry and other
print and online journals. She
is the author of Various Modes
of Departure, published by Kore
Press in 2004 and selected in
2003 by Carolyn Forché
as the winner of the second Kore
Press First Book Award. She works
in multiple genres including
essays, poetry, short fiction
and non-fiction. She holds a B.A.
and an M.A. in English from the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
In 2002, she attended the Catskill
Poetry Workshop, where she studied
with Dave Smith and Steve Dunn,
an experience that returned her
to poetry after a long hiatus.
A 2004 recipient of a grant from
the Leeway Foundation, she lives
in Elkins Park.
