David
Simpson's poetry has appeared in numerous journals
including Alaska Quarterly Review, River Styx, The
Cortland Review, Verse Daily, and La Petite Zine.
In 2005, he was first runner-up in the Fraser Poetry
Competition; in 2006, he received honorable mention
in the Passager poetry contest and a Pushcart nomination
from the Schuylkill Valley Journal.
David earned his Masters in Creative Writing from
New York University, where he studied with Galway
Kinnell, Sharon Olds, Gerald Stern, and William Matthews,
among others. He has also done extensive private study
with Molly Peacock and Christopher Bursk.
Along with five other applicants, David has been accepted
for a week-long seminar in manuscript preparation,
which will be led by the poet Stephen Dunn at this
years Nebraska Summer Writers Conference.
David recently retired from Verizon, Inc., after 21
years as a mainframe programmer and data base administrator.
He works part-time as a braille music and assistive
technology specialist, providing training and web
site development for The National Resource Center
for Blind Musicians (Bridgeport, CT) and Dancing Dots
Braille Music Technology, L.P., the developer of the
GOODFEEL® Braille Music Translator. He sings with
the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia; he recently
made his acting debut, performing as the character
Dan, in the Amaryllis Theatre production of Blood
Guilty, by the Irish playwright Antoine O Flatharta.
David lives in Glenside, where he is working on the
manuscript for his second book of poetry. His first
manuscript, Hyacinths, is in search of a publisher.
