The
2010 season has officially been started in a big way
as the season first trade takes place. It is a blockbuster
deal involving eight players in total including three
First Round draft picks and three starting qb's. Among
the qb's are the reigning scoring champions of the
past two years as 328's acquire 2009 leader Drew Brees
from the 69ers. 328's also receive wr Robert Meachem
from the 69ers who acquire qb 2008 scoring leader
Jay Cutler, 2009 Free Agent of the Year wr Miles Austin
and the #3 pick in 2010 from 328's. In addition to
Brees and Meachem, 328's will receive two 2010 First
Round Picks (#1 overall and #9) from A II P in exchange
for qb Matthew Stafford who they drafted with the
#2 pick in 2009. This trades marks just the fourth
time in league history that officially involved 3-teams
at once, and it is the first time since November of
2001 (when Both Holes, O's and A II P made a deal).
The 69ers reacquired Brees (who they drafted and later
released) in the 2008 Trade of the Year and he was
a key reason for the franchises first ever National
League title. The trade is the 60th for the 69ers
franchise and it marks their 14th deal with the 328's
franchise (the most shared by any two franchises in
the league). If 328's hold on to the #1 overall pick
in the 2010 draft it will mark the franchises 3rd
in the past 5 years.
