The
15th Annual Draft Day proved to be a magical
moment for owners and fans alike. Celebrating
the 15th year, the draft was unique in both
location and style from any other held before
it. The spirited nature of the whole event took
over the emotion of the draft as the selections
flew by at a rabid pace. As always there were
some surprises (even as early as #3 overall)
but the flow of the draft really never wavered
from the owners. There was little surprise when
Lake Show announced Michael Crabtree with the
first pick and Hall of Achievement Award. Crabtree
is the third wr taken #1 overall (joining 2004
pick Larry Fitzgerald and 2007's Calvin Johnson).
It started what was a big WR day as a record
four were taken in the First Round (Crabtree,
Percy Harvin at #5, Jeremy Maclin #8 and Hakeem
Nicks #9). In contrast, only three RB's were
taken in the First Round which marks the lowest
since the Inaugural 1995 Draft. With the selections
of Matthew Stafford (#2), Mark Sanchez (#7)
and Josh Freeman (#10) this draft is only the
fourth to see more then two QB's taken in the
First Round. In total 13 WR's were selected
this year out of 37 total picks.
